As well as the technique for the footwear and removal of procedure and/or surgical gloves, the process of disposal of gloves, after use, should be performed in accordance with current legislation. The disposal of the procedure and surgical gloves should take into account the issue of biosafety and, therefore, should be done appropriately, so that it does not cause the contamination of the professionals involved, be it the health professionals, or even the collaborators who carry out activities of collection of the materials used and cleaning in general, and of course, that we can not fail to mention the preservation of the environment.
ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) classifies procedure and surgical gloves as "residues that may be contaminated or cause accidents". That is, after use they present risks to human health, animal health and the environment, and thus cannot be mixed with ordinary garbage.
– How should contaminated gloves be disposed of?
In the same way as chemical and hospital residues, the procedure gloves that have been in contact with body fluids, blood or other substances that can cause the spread of microorganisms, diseases and toxic substances, need to observe the regulations of ANVISA and CONAMA (National Environment Council) at the time of disposal.
They should be separated as soon as they are removed from the hands and packed in bags or containers suitable for this type of waste, resistant to leaks, tipping and ruptures. The waste must be properly sealed and identified according to the regulations, and forwarded to the own collection that must be performed by a duly licensed company.
Remember: performing the proper disposal is good for you, for your establishment, and for the environment.
