The Covid-19 Pandemic caused several elective surgeries to be cancelled in several hospitals around the world. Now that the situation is already more stable in many places, doctors are returning to perform surgical procedures of various types.

Covid-19 is a disease caused by the new agent of the coronavirus family. Since December 2019, the virus that can cause severe respiratory infections such as pneumonia has spread rapidly around the world causing a pandemic of the disease. In addition, the mortality rate of covid-19 is considerable, and there are already millions of infected worldwide.

The new coronavirus presents great risk especially for the ease of contamination, and although its risk group is composed of the elderly and people with pre-existing diseases (especially respiratory diseases), it reaches all ages, genders and ethnicities, and can evolve rapidly.

Covid-19 is a disease caused by the new agent of the coronavirus family.

Also in May 2020, a report released by the Brazilian Ministry of Health showed that almost 200,000 health professionals in the country were suspected of having contracted the new coronavirus (Covid-19) at the time, and of these, 31,700 had their suspicions confirmed. And the numbers haven’t stopped growing.

These figures warn of the great risk that the pandemic has added to the routine of physicians and other health professionals around the world, and today, even the most common procedures require double attention to the use of Personal Protective Equipment – PPE’s.

But what additional risks does a patient with coronavirus present in a surgical procedure?

Even the smallest of surgical procedures already presents a risk of the doctor and his team becoming infected with some harmful agent to health or microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria and fungi with which the patient is infected.

The most common procedures require double attention to the use of Personal Protective Equipment – PPE’s.

This is because they are procedures where eventually contact with blood, saliva and other biological secretions occur that can transfer these harmful agents from the patient to the doctor.

The new coronavirus adds another risk to this large account, especially because of the high degree of contagion it presents. For medical teams, any moment of inattention to the use of protective equipment makes room for professionals to become contaminated and even take the disease to other people and other patients.

In addition to all this, there is still one more aggravating factor in the fact that there is still no effective vaccine against covid-19, making it possible for anyone to get lost.

Procedure gloves – an PPE essential for surgical practice

Gloves, masks, glasses and aprons are some of the indispensable equipment in the protection kit for professionals who are dealing with patients infected with Covid-19. Gloves, in particular, are the main barrier between the doctor and the patient, avoiding contact of the hands with infected biological agents.

Inside the operating room, gloves are critical. Maxitex and Maxitex PF gloves, for example, are high quality surgical gloves made of 100% natural latex with anatomical shape and high tactile sensitivity, very effective in the day-to-day of surgical centers.
