Procedure gloves are classified as PPE’s, that is, they are in the same category of personal protective equipment of the professional, and therefore require a lot of attention in their use. For its use to be effective, it is necessary to observe the correct pavement, the integrity and expiration date of the material, and the proper hygiene of the hands, in order to ensure the protection of both the professional and the patient.
– But can the gloves be reused?
Some establishments perform the practice of reusing procedure gloves. Vinyl and Nitrile gloves, used by professionals in the areas of cleaning and aesthetics, for example, usually undergo washing and reprocessing procedures to be reused, being a common practice in many places.
However, this practice is not recommended!
Procedure gloves may present a high risk of contamination and spread of microorganisms and diseases. The reuse of this material puts the lives of professionals and patients in danger.
Washing the gloves to reuse them does not guarantee total decontamination of them. In addition, the protective capacity of the material can be compromised, undergoing changes during the washing process, which make them ineffective and dangerous.
According to the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), currently there is no standardized, validated and accessible procedure for the safe reprocessing of gloves.
