November is dedicated to the fight against prostate cancer, the second most common type of cancer among men and which affects about 60,000 men every year. And this month, the campaign reinforces the importance of prevention and, especially, early diagnosis for the cure of this disease.
Worrying data show that almost 50% of men assisted by SUS in Brazil never had a prostate exam. And in many cases, prejudice and “taboos” that revolve around rectal examination (essential examination to detect the disease), are the main obstacles to cure.
Even with the absence of symptoms, all men from the age of 50, or who are part of the risk groups, should have the preventive examination periodically.
What is the prostate?
The prostate is a male gland that is located just below the bladder and in front of the rehest, involving a part of the urethra. Prostate cancer is the development and multiplication of abnormal cells in this gland, which causes the emergence of a tumor.
Diagnosis is initially made through a blood test called PSA and rectal touch, which together will indicate changes in the prostate. If any abnormality is detected in the region, the biopsy may confirm the suspicion of cancer.
symptoms
In the early stage of the disease, prostate cancer may not present any symptoms. However at a later stage, the patient may present with bone pain, difficulties urinating, blood in urine or sperm, and problems with an eration.
Risk factors
– Age over 50 years;

Maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, not smoking, and taking preventive tests at least once a year are key attitudes to prevent Prostate Cancer.
